This year, FitMoney.org embraced new challenges while enhancing and expanding financial literacy education, which teaches some of the most crucial life skills.
Our K-12 curriculum is now in 35 schools and youth organizations across New England. Explore our accomplishments from this year, and then join our mission to empower students for a financially fit future.
...THE ANYTIME, ANYWHERE CURRICULUM.
As classrooms began to close and students started logging on, FitMoney.org launched our At Home Curriculum, a 100% accessible, free online curriculum for Elementary, Middle, and High School. We quickly curated key lessons to continue student engagement with practical financial literacy exercises to do right at home.
...PARTNERSHIPS AND MOMENTS THAT SPARKED DISCUSSION.
Our partnership with Brandon Copeland proposed family table conversations along with activities to engage discussion about the significance of starting financial education early. Together we know that 95% of parents believe financial knowledge to be a critical life skill, yet only 33% feel their schools provide their students with it.*
...A PATH TO
In our most ambitious project of the year, the online Financially Fit Certificate teaches real-life and practical concepts for high schoolers and graduates. Students with financial literacy skills assume less student loan and credit card debt setting them on a better path for success. The five-day program was delivered as the perfect remote-learning opportunity across Massachusetts, with hundreds of certificates already achieved.
...CONVERSATIONS FROM THE CLASSROOM TO THE HOME.
In October, FitMoney.org was proud to sponsor a Virtual Assembly in collaboration with New England Patriots’ Brandon Copeland that encouraged students to stay in the game during this year’s challenging remote-learning environment. We were joined by over 250 students, including those from several Boys and Girls Clubs in Boston.
...RELATIONSHIPS WITH SCHOOLS AND COMMUNITIES
At the heart of FitMoney.org is community, working to empower students and families with tools for financial health. “We were so pleased to work with FitMoney.org to offer this important real-world learning to our students,” said Catherine Tuccinardi, the Academic Coordinator for Old Colony Regional Vocational School in Rochester, MA, where 560 students took the Financially Fit Certificate course. “Old Colony believes in preparing our students for a successful life, whether they pursue a post-secondary education or move right into a career, and financial literacy is one of the most important life skills to ensure a great future.”
...AN INTERSECTION OF
FINANCE AND STEM.
As a winner of a MA STEM Week Grant, FitMoney.org’s first STEM Business Challenge developed a week-long program that encouraged students to creatively develop financial business plans to promote public health and safety. The curriculum was taught to students across New England connecting financial literacy and STEM.
...OUR FIRST STUDENT AMBASSADOR PROGRAM
In a new collaboration with Northeastern University and Tufts University students, together we are bringing financial leadership to K-12 schools in and around Boston. Partnering with dedicated college students with the same passion for financial literacy greatly expands FitMoney.org’s reach and introduces more positive role models to the classroom.
